Our High school, Emmet Jr. Conrad high School, was probably the diverse high school in the city of Dallas. During the first few week of the High school I was introduced to many organizations that the school offered such as band, choir, orchestra, theater art, etc… the most interesting one of them was the club called Rising leaders. It taught leadership skill to the student through multiple volunteer opportunities around Dallas and allowed them to learn, lead and hone their leadership skills. My first experience with member who I had a disagreement with was when we were getting ready to show case animals at the Texas Discovery Garden. One of the member seem to be disinterested and was constantly on her phone. I would tell her not to do it because we were volunteering and it would leave a bad impression to the people who were coming to see the animals but she wouldn’t listen. Without thinking twice, I started to argue with her during the break because I was in charge and I didn’t want any negative comment going to Ms. Glib which would make her think twice about my leadership. This dispute end with me being on the wrong side because as a leader I was supposed maintain cool headed and keep it drama free. On the ride back I asked why she was acting that way she told me that she had her friend at hospital which is why she was checking her phone constantly. The feeling of regret consumed me and my apology overstruck me with guilt. However, learning from my mistake I managed to become better leader. Mastering how to communicate with my members required time due to the diversity but after a while my leadership and my fellow team mates made an amazing progress throw high school

The Leadership Challenge discusses “strengthen (ing) resilience” (pp 206). I am the kind of person who wants all of my ducks in a row so when one or two are out of line, I get flustered not to mention overwhelmed to the point wanting to quit. The past few years have been one of loss in various ways; my father’s passing, my beloved pet for nine years passing, my husband’s illness, the loss of our house as well as the loss of my husband’s and partner’s business. Even though we are still reeling with the impact of what we have been hit with, we continue to encourage one another emotionally to look ahead, not dwell on the past.…

There are multiple ways I am a leader within my community. The main way I lead my peers is through sports. I have been on my different teams; volleyball, basketball, track, and softball have all given me the opportunity to build my character and to lead by example. I was the volleyball team captain for my junior and senior year, so many of the younger girls were looking up to me. The best way to lead is by your actions; I would always go hard in practices and games to show the underclassmen that in order to get the best results, you need to give it your all.…

Introduction “Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.” — Vince Lombardi As I reflect on my leadership journey, I become more convinced with Vince that leaders are not born leaders, but are a result of a conscious effort to be one. While serving in various institutions in leadership positions, I have seen myself emerge to those positions through my hard work and skills rather than just having been assigned to it. Various factors like experience, training, mentorship, conscious practice and even failure have contributed in developing my leadership abilities.…
