Any course with the designation “AP” sounded challenging, but an intensified class like AP Biology sounded more challenging, due to its extensive lab reports and difficult scientific concepts. Taking AP Biology felt like being a doctor, wearing a lab coat or writing a report for every lab we experimented with. AP Biology not only covered the human body at a molecular level, but also provided me the experience of what working in a lab truly felt like. The experience and the class fascinated me and helped me gain some practical experience with tools such as centrifuges or micropipettes. Like AP Biology, Anatomy/Physiology also provided me with lab experience in dissecting various organisms.…
It has been my longtime dream to get into the medical field. I have planned for this career since I was a little girl. My mother started talking to me about college when I was in elementary school. I can remember sitting in the back seat as she drove, and I listened to her talk about me going to college. College was always on my mind.…
I plan on taking Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and more. I want to become a Dermology Physican Assistant. Im willing to take extra school if needed because this is something that I want to do later in life. I don't think it matters the expense if you are passionate and know this is something you can see doing. I really liked anatomy in high school its interesting knowing how your body responds when certain things happen to you.…
Taking CTE classes in high school has allowed me to fulfill a prerequisite of the sonography program at ACC. Through my health science class, I have trained to be a Certified Nursing Assistant and have completed 40 plus clinical training hours. ACC requires CNA classes, but does not require certification. I will have an edge over other students, because I will be certified. Also, having anatomy and physiology in high school will have prepared me for taking A&P in college.…
Professional Portfolio I decided to look more into the career of surgical technicians because I used to work as a surgical tech intern at Sanford and was interested in possibly working as one in the future. Career Summary Responsibilities Surgical technicians, also known as surgical technologists, are a direct assistants to surgical staff. This includes the anesthesiologist, surgeon, and assisting nurses. A surgical tech’s main responsibility is to prepare, stock, and clean operating rooms. This way direct surgical staff have a clean and organized workplace so they are able to better focus on their patient and the surgery itself.…
Being a surgical technologist can be hard work; not only should a technician watch after all patients, but must keep a check on themselves. A technician needs to remain as stress free as possible, always making sure all body mechanics are in order. Forgetting to do this can lead to emotional stress, which has a negative effect on the body. A surgical technician not in full control of himself causes things to go wrong in the operating room. A technician must always be completely focused on the job.…
You can test your curiosity of the healthcare field while still in high school, and even make new friends. Also, remember the benefits you can take away from this class and be one step or more ahead of your peers. You will not only be making more money, but you are ultimately gaining experiences that you will take forward into this next chapter of…
“A medical assistant may practice in the United States without either certification, but most employers today require at least one certification” (Adams, 2014). By a medical assistant being certified it shows employers that this person has been through a program that has taught them the essentials to perform their job and be successful at that job. By being nationally certified it makes you a more sought after candidate for the position. “A medical assistant with formal training is almost always compensated on a higher scale than one with no training” (Adams, 2014). To become a medical assistant one must first enroll and complete a medical assistant program through a college, university, or technical school.…
I, Physics and Human Body Systems. Next year I will be taking Anatomy and Physiology, a CNA classes offered through a local community college and either Honors Biology II or Honors Chemistry II.…
What would be an amazing dream job? A teacher, a firefighter, a cop, a vet? Becoming a surgical technologist is a dream job. Knowing a future career interest is very important. A surgical technologist requires a postsecondary degree and the ability to work long hours.…
However, I want to attend Health Academy to continuously challenge myself and broaden my knowledge in math and science. This being said, all the critique I get I take to heart and it pushes me to work even harder. The academy not only offers an excellent medical program, but also a perspective of the real world beyond high school. Health Academy stresses the importance of professionalism, dedication, and hunger for knowledge. It teaches its members to work through obstacles, to give their 110%, and above all, to be courteous, responsible, and honest in all that they do.…

This past summer I was invited to the Global Youth Summit on the Future of Medicine at Brandeis University. The Summit was a week-long, intensive immersion into the many medical fields, and I was joined by about 250 other delegates from around the world. This program opened my eyes to medicine and propelled my interest even deeper. Now, I am taking the Harvard Medical School HMX Fundamentals online course in physiology to get a headstart in medical education. In addition, I enjoy being able to blend together my other interests, math and art.…
While other six year old girls loved playing dress up and pretended to be princesses, I was always too busy pretending to save the lives of my imaginary patients. My family members have always told me that I stood out from the other girls from a very young age, other girls were in love with the thought of meeting prince charming one day, while I was in love with the thought of becoming an individual who will be entitled to save the lives of strangers. In this paper I will explain why I have chosen to become a surgeon, and also why I believe it is the perfect job for me. I have finally decided on the thought of becoming a surgeon, but before I can actually make that dream a reality, I plan on majoring in Biology as an undergraduate student…
As an only child growing up in a middle class family, I learned the value of helping others through my parents. My hard working parents were brought up in Bangladesh, a third-world country in South Asia with devastating poverty. Moreover, my parents are very strict and disciplining individuals; they both loved to help others regardless of their physical endurance, mental health, or economic stability. As role models, they reared me in the belief that my goals in life should include lending a helping hand to others. Furthermore, my empathy for others has encouraged me to aid those in need.…
