But it certainly affects more than your weight. A dietitian is widely recognized as someone who helps a person lose weight or someone who can plan diets and educate people about eating healthy foods. Some dietitians supervise food preparation and service. Nutritionists are often confused with a dietitian but in actuality, as well stated by Shereen Lehman on verywell.com, a dietitian has a bachelor's degree with coursework approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. A nutritionist is someone who's studied nutrition and may have a graduate degree in nutrition from an accredited college (Lehman). After I carry out my years in college I can choose from a few different career paths. I could work at a doctor's office, hospital, nursing homes, outpatient care centers, and more. There are management dietitians, clinical dietitians, and community dietitians. Management tends to work in schools or food corporations, and they can supervise, food shipments, meal preparations, and plan meals and budgets. Community Dietitians can work in care centers, non- profit organizations and HMOs (Health Maintenance Organization) and typically educate a group about nutrition and food. Idaho Department of Labor’s website says that a Dietitian’s annual wage is $51,219. While the annual openings are few (about 9) the 10 year growth is much faster than average according the website (20.6%). It is considered to have a medium employment outlook of 306 in Idaho (idcis.intocareers.org). Some may say that that has its risk and disadvantages but I am passionate about nutrition and I know this is what I am supposed to do. Idaho Department of Labor has a lot of things that they advise I get done before I become a Registered Dietitian. I have to finish high school, at least bachelor’s degrees, complete an internship or pre-professional practice program, take an approved class, submit two certificates of professional recommendations, and pass the national registry exam (idcis.intocareers.org).
