To become a carpenter you need at least a high school diploma. You also need to go through on-the job- trainings such as, going through a 3-4 year apprenticeship. They need math skills to correctly measure things. Business skill would be useful to know how to work with their clients. They also need to be very strong and active, which means they need physical skills. There are many skills a carpenter needs, but these are the main skills a carpenter should have.

Carpenters get paid a reasonable amount each year. Their average annual salary is $39,940. Some carpenters get paid more per year and some get paid less per year. The average pay per hour for carpenters is $19.20. Employment for carpenters is expected to grow by 24 percent from 2012 to 2022. That would be 218,200 more carpentry jobs. The reason why the employment rate will go up is due to road construction, new homes being built, and places get remodeled.
Opportunities for Advancement There are easy ways to advance to a higher position like an independent contractor or a general construction supervisor. Knowing English and Spanish would help to communicate with more people. Also taking extra trainings would allow you to advance to a higher position.
