Personal Statement: My Experience For A Career In Medicine

I was first exposed to medicine when my Mom a registered nurse, took me to Take Your Child to Work Day, with vast exposure to different types of healthcare jobs in the hospital setting. As a teenager, I experienced personal injuries including a broken arm and a tongue lassaeration in which I was a patient myself. Following my injuries, I was able to experience the care and compassion of the healthcare team, which was the beginning of my interest for a career in medicine.
To fuel my interest, I obtained an EMT certification in high school, with the opportunity to serve those in need of medical services throughout my community. My first experience in providing care in the pre hospital setting with the combination of adrenaline and excitement, I started to develop a like for helping people. With a definitive passion to pursue a career as a physician, I started my undergraduate studies. However, this was the true test of self-discipline and willingness.

I found the sciences courses particularly challenging, and was unsure of my college major. During the beginning of collegiate years, I exposed myself to variety of course such as medical sociology and art appreciation that provided me with a well-rounded perspective on current events. After completion of 2 years in undergraduate course work at Shenandoah University, I transferred to Towson University with an expression of seeking a larger school environment and programs tailored towards health professions. Unfortunately during my studies at Towson University, I took medical leave for an extended amount of time.
