I have known since I was young that I needed to have a career in the medical field. I was and still am fascinated by the human body, I enjoyed helping others, and there seemed to be something different to see everyday. The same still applies today but, I have one more reason for wanting to pursue a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing: I want to be able to provide the type of care that has been given to myself and my family time and time again. In the last decade, we have had our fair share of health issues but, the nurses have consistently remained kind, compassionate, and caring no matter where we were. These men and women impacted and inspired me so greatly that I want to dedicate my life to serving others. In the following essay, I will expound upon the basic statistics concerning nursing, the education requirements, how Chemistry plays a role in nursing, and what this means to me. A nurse is someone who “provides and coordinates patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provides advice and emotional support to patients and their family members (BLS, 2016)”. To me, providing emotional support is one of the biggest things that a nurse or any healthcare provider can do for a person in a time of crisis. Everyday person may not understand the language of medicine but, everyone understands the language of kindness. They can work at a variety of places from hospitals to universities to prisons.
