Becky And The Hunter: A Narrative Fiction

Improved Essays
Becky was a nice person. Her family, her friends, and even strangers told her so. Becky wouldn’t hurt a fly, everyone would say.

So it was inevitable that when Becky saw a group of kids bullying a cat in a park, she had to step in. Becky was nice; she was also in the cheerleading squad, and was tall and muscular enough to pass off as a professional martial artist. The kids sped off within a minute of her appearance.

She watched the poor cat lick himself clean. Becky was surprised to find that the cat had suffered no serious injuries. Only the messiness of his gray fur seemed to bother the creature. She didn’t expect anything in return for helping, not because it was a cat but because she was nice. However, the cat was apparently a prideful

“I am offering you a wish, human.” His voice seemed to hold an offended tone. “Be smart. You won’t get this chance again.”

Becky didn’t want to offend the cat, but she didn’t really have a wish either. Her eyebrows knitted together in thought.

“Oh!” She suddenly exclaimed, because she had an idea. “I wish you to tell me your name!”

“My name is Souhatier. But that is not a wish.” Souhatier said.

Becky couldn’t think of a good wish. There wasn’t much she wanted –and the things she did want, she didn’t think Souhatier could make true.

She accepted with a smile.

It didn’t take time for the wish to take place. Becky found herself growing smaller, and she was giddy, because she had envied small girls all her life. To her horror the shrinkage did not stop even when she hit half her original height. She grew smaller, smaller, and even smaller until Souhatier leveled with her.

“Wonderful.” He purred, and his green eyes glistened with joy. “Much better than before. Not to offend you, human –ah, sorry, may I have your name?”

Becky muttered her own name and Souhatier curtsied in response. She had shrunk into the size of a cat. Her parents would be horrified, she thought, and decided to ask the grey cat to turn her back. But he had already disappeared by the time she looked up.

She trudged back to her home. How was she going to show up at school? Her cheerleader uniform wasn’t going to fit her anymore.

Becky met her mother on the driveway, who came over and picked her up.

“I look so weird, right?” Becky cried, as her mother stared.

“Blue eyes, too, just like Becky!” her mother muttered, and cradled her to her chest. “She always said she wanted a cat. She’s going to love

I just got done with my shift to protect Camp Half-Blood feeling very tired and stressed. With the camp’s protection being down and most of the campers going back to their families for the summer, this meant that there were very few of us to guard our safe haven. Lately, I’ve found the sound of crashing waves, wind brushing through my hair, and the slight smell of salt hitting my face very soothing ever since I had met my best friend, Percy Jackson.…

Familiar Magic! By Anneliese Justine Carey Chapter One I tried to keep my excitement to myself as I walked into the ceremony hall; the observer from the DMA (Department of Magical Affairs) and one of the summoning instructors Mrs. Justin were waiting at the center of the room for all the students. Mrs. Justin started talking about how proud she was of everyone and that if we didn’t succeed, it was alright and we could try again in a few weeks. She went on about lots of other things that I didn’t care about. Once Mrs. Justin stopped babbling the observer stepped forward and said “When I call your name, you will come forward and carry out your familiar summoning spell.…
