In the American version Belle is an only child, which is a contributing factor to Belle and Beast fall in love. There are many other family related differences, like in the American version it says that Belle's mother had passed away, in the Italian they never even mention her mother. The difference about the mentioning of her mother is a subtle but important difference to the story. The film had a lot more plot to it and better sense of setting and characterization. The scene which provided more imagery was when Westley saves the princess from the other men and they travel down the fire swamp in order to get free but through their travel they discover large rats that attack them and sinkholes that Buttercup falls in and Westley dives in to save her. Beauty is immediatley introduced as being “lost by her father in a game of cards”, which completley contrasts with the normal father in De Beaumont’s story. Being shunned by her only family right in the beginning of the story, unlike that De Beamount begins to lead up to the crumbling of society, as this creates a new spin on society and how humans may be the worst creatures in the word. As for Beast, he lets Beauty return to her father for a while because, although it pains him immensely, he cannot stand the thought of upsetting her. Another way that the same idea is emphasized in both stories is when Kim chooses Edward over her handsome but mean-spirited former boyfriend and when Beauty remarks to Beast, “I prefer you, just as you are, to those, who, under a human form, hide a treacherous, corrupt, and ungrateful heart”. Each girl has chosen to prefer inner beauty over the meaninglessness of good-looks, and this what both stories are really about. Therefore, the presence of the core theme from Beauty and the Beast in Edward…

One example of a substantial difference is in the play, Paris, Juliet’s fiance, comes to visit her dead body when Romeo comes to kill himself; Romeo and Paris fight and Paris dies as well and asks Romeo, “Open the tomb, lay me with Juliet” (V.iii.73). In the movie, not only does Paris not die, but he never even comes to visit Juliet in the tomb. This changes the viewer’s perspective of the story because Paris plays a smaller role in the story since his main part was when he comes to visit Juliet and is killed. Also, the reader may get a different perspective of Paris’ love for Juliet since he never comes to visit her; in the play, his love seems genuine because he comes to visit her but it seems more fake in the movie since he does nothing when she dies. Another difference from the play to the movie is that Friar Lawrence gives a large summary about the entire play both Romeo and Juliet’s families come to see their bodies.…
