Beatus of Liebana was a monk at the monastery of Santo Toribio. He lived in the Liebana Valley in the Asturias region of Spain throughout his career. (Benton 2002) .He was a teacher of Alcuin of York and Ethrerius of Osma as well as a confessor to Queen Adosinda. He is also best known as a theologian and a geographer from the former Duchy of Cantabria and Kingdom of Asturias. He spent his time in the Picos de Europa mountain region of Liebana working. He was best known for his work on the Commentary of the Apocalypse. It is an illuminated manuscript depicting the Flood by Stephanus Garsia. The copied manuscripts are known as Beati while one copy is known as a Beatus. It contains several prologus as well as one summary section. (Apocalypse
