There are many great bands and artists out there to contrast. For example, there are super groups like Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, and Eagles. There are also amazing soloists in the form of Kenny Rogers, Bruno Mars, and Dolly Parton, but the two groups I choose to contrast have to be the Beatles, followed by Pentatonix. The differences between these two are their nationality, decade in which they played, and the format in which they were made.

The vocals of both groups differed greatly. Pentatonix has five members that can sing lead, while the Beatles had only two singers that rotated in being lead singers. As far as instruments, Pentatonix is an A Capella group who solely focuses on their voice and uses no instruments whatsoever. The Beatles band included instruments such as guitars, bass, and drums in their music. The songs recorded by both groups have their differences. Pentatonix mainly make covers of songs created by others but they add an A Capella twist to it. Pentatonix's covers have made them the most famous a cappella group in the country.(Sarah Grant) The Beatles compose their own music and put a lot of thought in the process of creating new songs. They sing about different themes like love, drugs, and peace. For example, the song, “Can’t buy me love” displays a classic statement of the philosopher's traditional indifference to material wealth compared to what is good for the soul. According to Paul Keithley, English politics seem to be much more progressive than their American counterpart. Paul Keithley also states that, topics such as abortion, same-sex marriage, and a national health care are non-issues. As opposed to the US, which has recently struggled with such topics, Britain seems to be remarkably at ease with such matters. The government in the U.S and England also share their differences. The English have a democratic parliamentary government, headed by a monarch and prime minister. The U.S., on the other hand, is a federal constitutional republic with three governmental branches sharing powers. (Kevin Wandrei) Another difference is that the United States have a written constitution while England does not. The nation of the Beatles and Pentatonix also have contrasting non-official languages. In England, the secondary language spoken is Polish while in the U.S. it is Spanish. In addition, in England the next non-official language on the list of most spoken is Punjabi while in the United States it is

Cohort effects emerge through normative history-graded influences byways of historical, political or economic, social or cultural events. The Beatles influenced both younger and older people (and the rock era) during their popularity; individuals who experienced the Beatles’ music (whether they enjoyed or disliked) are connected through some degree of comradery. This music is something that the groups of people from that time can talk about, these groups of individuals have experienced the effects first-hand, and it is an experience that other individuals who were too young (or old) or who were born after the movement can never fully relate. Cohort effects can affect the validity of cross-sectional designs by making it difficult to identify the actual developmental…

Formal Response 1 In the last two weeks I have listened to three CDs, all of which represent the work of different African and African American musicians. The second CD was a collection of music from the Pygmies of the Ituri Rainforest, and most of its music held a consistent, though very foreign song style.…
