Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness This beatitude blesses those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. In other words, it blesses those who seek right things on the same level as food/water. Righteousness in this beatitude can refer to a lot of things such as good relationships with others and God, morality and justice, generally righteousness seems to be represent anything good. Another way we could interpret this part of the beatitude is by looking at the necessity of ‘hunger and thirst’; truthfully this is probably the most important part of the beatitude. ‘Hunger and Thirst’ refers to a discontent with ourselves and sin and a desire for righteousness and self-improvement. So, if we were to rephrase the beatitude, it would bless those who passionately seek or desire good things. Another thing which we can understand from this beatitude is that the desire for righteousness is what’s blessed, if it wasn’t, they would have written the beatitude as “Blessed are the righteous”. This beatitude seems to refer to the attitude you should have towards good things, and how you should be passionate about what is right. …show more content…
It states that that those who passionately seek good things will be filled, this means that they will find what they are looking for. Also, a less literal meaning is that if you don’t search you won’t find anything, so searching is just as important as the end goal. Lastly when it says ‘For they will be filled’ it hints at the fact that they will find happiness with God in Heaven, but also when they search they will become happier in a
