Beach Volleyball Dress Codes

Decent Essays
Since 1996 when beach volleyball first became an Olympic-medal event women where given only two options as dress code, a bikini or body suit. However, since the 2012 Olympics, the rules regarding the beach volleyball dress code for women have changed. Players are allowed to wear shorts with a maximum length of three centimetres above the knee and a sleeved or sleeveless top. Although not every country or player has expressed concern with having to wear a bikini for the games, the modified rules were a long time coming for those with religious and cultural requirements that needed a uniform with more flexibility.

Many women athletes encounter double standards in the small amount of media coverage that they receive. When the media is covering men sports they are primarily focused on their skilled performance. On the contrary, when female athletes finally receive media attention, they are more likely to focus on their physical attractiveness or non-sport related activities. In today’s sport women have to find a balance of being sexual to create a brand. The issue lies in the fact that they have to be sexual and desirable to gain the same attention as men do.…

Dress codes standards send home students every day, all over the country, for being too revealing. Most are girls, and on occasions, boys that struggle with the standards, therefore they should be lowered. It’s taking away from your class time, limits self-expression, and the rules can sometimes not be correctly administered are all problems caused by dress codes standards. The dress code can take away from class time because everyone is more concerned with how we are dressed, rather than worrying about if we’ll do good on our next math test, or studying for the history final. During class, teachers can stop their lesson to tell one of their students that they are violating dress codes, therefore taking time away from class and from other students learning for something that is not relevant outside of school.…

Persuasive Essay There has been a lot of controversy over whether or not girls should or should not be able to play on boys sports teams. Ever since we started school we’ve had to deal with dress code. However, schools have different rules such as whether you have to wear uniforms or how short your skirts can be. One in five women will be raped in their lifetime. This statistic can be unnerving to some, but to others it is just a number. Although rape is such a large problem in our society, it seems to have become a normality and consequence of life. Girls are being taught to cover up their bodies to protect themselves, while boys are being taught that sexual violence is a byproduct of natural instincts. The use of terms like “boys will be boys” shows that there is a lack of discipline for boys’ harassment.…
