In this article it mainly talks about the controversy and problems with coastal erosion and the ban on hard structures. A rule was put into place to help preserve the beaches. People are helping to contribute to the coastline and its problems. Erosion is an easy thing to notice when at the beach. When waves crash they are not crashing in straight lines. Instead they crash horizontally. This is what is causing sand to be having non-stop movement on the beach and is encouraging erosion and accretion. Shifting sands are also making it hard to predict where to build properties. A building built far away from the shoreline could eventually end up closer due to erosion. North Carolina has tried to avoid the hard structure ban. The CRC studied how the hard structures were affecting NC beaches. With lots of people visiting NC beaches each and every year. Lots of problems still remain with property owners and the issues against state lawmakers.

It acquires the most famous giant pile of sand. This large pile of sand is caused by winds that push the sand in a southwesterly direction. There is so much sand that periodically the sand has to be loaded onto a truck and taken back to the northeastern corner of the park. This beach is different from the rest because of its direction, how steep it is, and the type of material on the beach. The struggles that have come along with trying to figure out how to manage all the sand has not been a cheap process. In fact it is a multi billion dollar process. They started a long process by putting in sand free ports but then ran into an aggravating problem with rocks. They also discovered other wildlife.
