My life has been centered on sports for the majority of my life and it’s one of the things I’m most passionate about. When I grow up I imagine myself being a sports trainer or running my own gym for athletes to train in just like me. So for my may program I wanted to find an internship that could replicate this notion. From a friend’s recommendation I found first athlete, a sport’s training gym, to be the perfect fit and I knew it would teach me more about what goes on behind the scenes of training. I see myself as being a capable leader and I strive for success so the book I read throughout may program was “Be the First Believer”, by Ed Deutschlander, where he covers all the values a great leader should have and why successful business people and athletes are so successful. In his book he talks about all the good habits you should form if you want to be successful and have the “can do” mindset on a daily basis. This book relates to my internship because I strive to be a successful athlete and I hope to be just as successful in the business world when I grow up. So when I do the tasks I’m given …show more content…

As main stream denominations continue to shrink and modern day evangelicalism has morphed into something more politically and conservatively centered, I found “Rescuing Jesus; How People of Color, Women and Queer Christians are Reclaiming Evangelism”, by Deborah Jian Lee, enlightening, profound and hopeful as it centers on new, out of the box ways in which people generally pushed into the margins, are redefining their evangelical Christianity. “Evangelicalism is anything but a monolith; it is a vastly diverse landscape”. Meaning, not all evangelicals are the same and perhaps what we think of them or how we envision them is way off the mark.…

I am interested in joining the Athletic Training program because I think that it will be an amazing learning opportunity. Last year I had the privilege of joining the Castleberry Tennis team which provided me with an insight into some of the strenuous and demanding requirements that athletes must meet daily. Through this experience I was able to come to the realization that my passion and skill concerning sports leans more towards the technical side of things rather than the hands-on experience. I believe that by becoming a student aide for the Athletic Training program, I will be able to support the athletic program in a way in which I feel I am more apt to do…

He does this by examining his own faith journey, and how his vison of Jesus and God changed as he matured and had various experiences. After his personal narrative, Borg examines the different perspectives scholars consider for Jesus. These two perspectives are the Jesus of history and the Christ of faith. It is through these two perspectives that Borg examines not only his own faith but Christianity as well.…

The professional book that I chose to read was “The American Health Care Paradox: why spending more is getting us less” wrote by Elizabeth H. Bradley and Lauren A. Taylor. In this book the authors demonstrate how American is spending more in health care but have poorer health outcome compare to other industrialized countries especially the Scandinavian countries (Sweden, Denmark and Norway). After interviewing different people in the medical field, the authors believe firmly that America will have better health outcomes if the government invest more in social services such as education, employment, training, housing, etc.… This does not imply that spending in health care is a wrong doing, it just means that social services and the health care…

In my college career which has been around 4 years now, these first two weeks are the first of any trimester or semester that instead of being enrolled in classes, I’m enrolled in an internship. This is definitely a change from the norm but at the same time it is exciting as well. It gives me the opportunity to use or observe some of the material that I have learned so far in my classes at Johnson & Wales in a real scenario. This internship allows me as well to gain much needed additional experience in the sports and athletics industry and will give me a more holistic view of the athletic program. It will allow me to see many different roles and see from various projects what parts of athletics I like or dislike since I am overall still open for the future to a variety of roles in the sports industry…
