P2 In “Do not go gentle into that good night” by Dylan Thomas, The child repeats “ Do not go gentle into that good night”.(Line 1,6,12,18) He tells this to his father throughout the poem and compares his father to other men who ride the sun and live their lives. The child tells this to his father because he wants his father to live his life instead of letting himself die, he wants him to enjoy what he has left of his life. “The whiskey on your breath Could make a small boy dizzy; But I hung on like death: Such waltzing was not easy”(Line 1-4) He is dancing with his father but since his father was incredibly drunk his father would dance a bit too hard which would cause the child to be holding on to him like a rider on a bull. He knows that the dad is drunk, but he stills stays with his father to dance with him because he loves his father and wants to enjoy the time they have with each other. The child also says “ The hand that held my wrist was battered on one knuckle; At every step you missed My right ear scraped a buckle.You beat time on my head With a palm caked hard by dirt, Then waltzed me off to bed Still clinging to your shirt.” (Line 12-16) In the beginning of those lines it talks about his father’s hand being battered on one knuckle meaning from working he ended up hurting himself from all the work; He also says with a palm caked hard by dirt meaning his hands being dirty from him working at work. The last line “Then waltzed me off to bed still clinging to your shirt” which meaning his father dancing him to bed while still holding on to his shirt. These lines show a drunk father acting a tad too aggressive with his dancing ,but it still shows the characteristics of a father showing love and
