A child in school has several behavior issues. A new BCBA was called into access the child. She believes the child needs medication for behavioral control. The BCBA talk to the school principle to let her know a functional analysis and a medical work-up would be recommended. She believes the child needs medication. The principle says the child cannot be managed in the school setting. She wants the child out of the school and moved to a special program. If the BCBA tells the principle what she really thinks of her approach she will be out of a job.

One of the very first things that need to be identified is does the client have any medical conditions. This is necessary in order to design effective treatment for the client. Ethical guideline to follow is conducting a functional assessment. It is important that BCBA deliver ethics message effectively to family members and parents. Behavior analyst follows all rules and regulations in school settings. The school principle would need to enforce the rules and regulations of the parent not submitting the client/child’s yearly medical or physical records. The BCBA can refuse treatment services if they are not already in a behavioral contract. The BCBA can explain ethically in order to provide effective treatment for the client/child that a behavior assessment, consultation, and a behavioral contract would need to take place. The parent does not have to disclose the clients/child’s medical records however; the BCBA would not be able to design an effective treatment without considering all data collected including the clients medical
