Everyday 160 billion tonnes of water flow in and out of the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia, more than 4 times the combined flow of all the world’s rivers. Every day an estimated 7000 MW of potential energy flows in and out of the Bay of Fundy. The Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia is home to the world’s highest tides. Across the world, the average difference between low tide and high tide is 1 m, but along the Bay of Fundy the tides can increase the water level by up to 17 m. What accounts for such a large differentiation? The two key factors are the vast volume of water in the bay, and the length and shape of the bay.
