In accordance with Olson (2009) he indicated that Bay Area Medical Center (BAMC) is struggling to maintain a positive image with the public, confidence of the employees was non-existent in hospital administration, medical and patient dissatisfaction was constantly rising. The current situation BAMC is experiencing has opened the door for a competing business, which could be devastating to their business. To overcome the current state that BAMC is in, the newly appointed CEO began to devise a plan of action in order to bridge the gaps in communication (with medical staff and the community), developing open relationships with honest communication, allowing the public to be more involved with the hospital, and having an open door policy for all of the employees. These strategies provided the foundation for BAMC to increase flexibility, promote sustainability, and further organizational goals. Flexibility in the workplace is providing the employees the ability to make choices influencing when, where, and for how long they engage in a task (Whyman & Petrescu, 2015). For example, the CEO of BAMC realized and understood that the initial plan that was developed and executed years before helped the company to achieve progress and captured additional market share. However, these gains were in jeopardy unless a new plan was formed (Olson, 2009). There were numerous interviews (over 100) implemented in order to develop and maintain communication that addressed the concerns of organizations, community leaders, media, government officials, etc. by accepting their feedback regarding the direction of BAMC to maintain and further the goals of the organization.
