If I was a college admission counselor, the essay question I would ask is how do you answer the question, who am I? We are humans and we all make mistakes. Instead of hiding who we are and the things we’ve done, we can be honest. You say all the good things and then instead of stopping, you talk about the mistakes you’ve made and how you fixed them. Showing that you overcame your difficulties shows that you’re strong person, which is a good quality. Undefeated teams don’t learn how to be humble until they’ve been beaten. The mistakes we make shape us into the person we are. My field hockey coach would always tell my team to approach every game as if you’re playing against the best. If last year we didn’t do well, then the next year we would see what we did wrong and fix it. The team didn’t get better when we ignored the problems we had. Acknowledging that you have a problem that you need to fix is how you better yourself as a person. At the age I am at right now, I shouldn’t know who I am because I am not my own person yet.
