The Battles of WW1 July 1, 1916: the bloodiest battle in the entirety of WW1 was fought. The Battle of the Somme managed to take out 60,000 British soldiers in one day. It became the most horrific fight to be fought of its time until the next world war. This battle, and many more eventually led to WW1 becoming the 2nd most casualties in American History, trailing behind the Civil War. Every single one of these battles had an important role in shaping the war and paved the way to the victory of the Triple Entente and the downfall of Germany. The Battle of the Somme occurred from July to September 1916. This was the first battle of WW1 and the deadliest that ever happened in the 4 years. It was fought between the Allied Forces and Germany. Out of the 3 million soldiers who fought in the 5 months, “more than a million had been wounded or killed” (History). Though the battle was terrible, the Allied Forces Asare 2 managed to win and push Germany to the Hindenburg line. This battle was important because it provided a glimpse of the horror that would occur during the war. The Battle of Verdun occurred from February 21, 1916, to December 18, 1916. It’s known as one of the longest, bloodiest, and fiercest battles to take place during WW1. This battle was fought between the French and Germans. At the end of the battle, “French casualties amounted to about 400,000, German ones to about 350,000. Some 300,000 were killed (Bidou).” The French managed to take the victory after a 10-month fight, and this battle was important because France managed to push a major German offensive
