In 732 CE, the Battle of Tours happened near Poitiers, France, where a Frankish leader named Charles Martel defended his territory in Gaul. Charles Martel was the illicit son of Pepin, an effective ruler of the Frankish Kingdom. With no legal sons, Pepin died in 714 CE leaving his three grandsons to become the mayor of the Franks. Regardless, Charles Martel beat out Pepin’s three grandsons in a force battle and became the mayor of the Franks. While he was in control, Charles Martel expanded the Frankish territory by 732 CE where he repulsed an onslaught by the Muslim, called the Battle of Tours.
