Battle Of Buena Vista Research Paper

Following the Battle of Buena Vista is the Siege of Veracruz. The Siege of Veracruz was another successful battle of the United States. Mexico surrendered after a twelve-day battle. America defeated Mexico once again in this war. The president of the United State decides that he should attempt to make a peace treaty with Mexico. He sends Nicholas Trist and General Winfield Scott's to negotiate with Mexico however that negotiation never follows through. Trist does however does not listen to the president and eventually signs the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. On September 8, the Battle for Mexico City begins. Santa Anna was relying for a strong defense to help win this battle. Mexico City was heavily surrounded by Santa Anna’s army and fortresses. American forces were strong and determined though. They started to take down the fortresses. Lee was the one leading in the battle for Mexico City. Santa Anna wasn’t prepared for American soldiers to take down the fortresses. Lee was able to discover paths that made it a step closer to the city. Lee’s ability to find another path helps them conquer in this battle. It lasted two years, as opposed to the wars to come in the future, the war between Mexico and the United States of America was short. The United States won the Mexican-American War. This results in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The Treaty said that 525,000 square miles went to the United States and included lands that are now known as Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. At the end of the war America did pay Mexico for the land that they won. Mexico also had to recognized that Texas was a state of the United States of America and was annexed.
