Known as the “Battle Of Alcatraz” it was the most dangerous and violent prison escape attempt in Alcatraz history. It was considered the unescapable prison in that that. Although a few prisoners would challenge that claim. In the middle of all the mayhem, one inmate was injured and fourteen other guards as well, while three inmate and two correctional officers died from a bullet wound.
Bernerd Paul Coy who robbed a bank, he was sentenced to twenty-six years in prison for robbery with a possession of a shotgun, made a plan to escape the prison with five other collaborators. Over months of observation Coy has mesmerized the patterns of the guard’s position patterns. Stiets was eventually stuck by a bullet and yelled he had been hit. Other officers were also hit during the gun fight. Bergen then got in contact with the staff in prison and found out that the inmates were going cell to cell firing random gun shots. After 1opm the warden associate decided to bring fourteen officers to break in the into the cell house so they can rescue the guards. Although they couldn’t move forward because of heavy gunfire from the top of block C. One officer was quick enough to close block D access door but was shot soon after. After 48 hours of gunfire Coy, Cretzer and Hubbard died from being stuck by gunfire and shrapnel. Coy oy was found dead near a rifle while wearing a guard coat. Cretzer was found dead a few feet away from coy with his hand on a pistol. Hubbard body was found a few feet away and was most likely the last to die from the other two.
