Parenting: Personal preference or cultural conformity? Parenting sculpts one’s childhood and greatly impacts one’s future adulthood. It is necessary that one child gets the best parenting possible to ensure the best for that child. But how to parent is a widely-debated topic. Of the topic include the Western and Eastern parenting styles. Hanna Rosin, author of Mother Inferior, supports the Western parenting style in contrast to the Eastern. The western parenting style permits children to have an acceptable degree of freedom, allowing them to encounter the demanding situations in life. In Rosin’s essay, she confronts another author, Amy Chua, on her essay Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother. Rosin does not agree with what Chua had to say, as Chua makes the Western style of parenting sound weak and underdeveloped. But in fact, Rosin brings examples of her own life, and her own children, to the front line. She tells of letting her children grow to be themselves, and not forcing anything on them, in which has come to a success to her thus far.
