Throughout the case, the evidence from the prosecution that stood out the most was when they claimed that Martha Monroe was able to make her own decisions without blaming it on her illness “Battered Woman Syndrome.” Which states that people that suffer from this can’t make a decision with a clear mindset. With this being said, Martha knew what she was doing when she shot George 3 times in the back. According to Sal Palmer, he said “ I know now she’s claiming she killed him in self-defense because of Battered Woman Syndrome. In my opinion it’s just a new excuse for committing murder.” By him saying this, it makes Martha seem guilty.

I think she shouldn’t be charged because she had so much anger inside her that when she saw him lying in bed, she thought that was her only way out before George kills her. I believe she is innocent because she was just trying to stop herself from being abused all the time. I also think she’s innocent because she just wanted what was best for her and her children. If Martha were to be found guilty, I believe she should be charged with 2nd degree instead of 1st because at some point George should have seen it coming because he had abused her for many years and she would eventually get tired of it and would want to defend herself in any way possible that she can think about, even though it will cause her,her life in jail. At the end of the day she just wanted what was best for her
