Batman is a comic book hero that fights crime to avenge his parent’s murder. A skilled fighter in hand-to-hand combat, he uses a variety of gadgets to protect the citizens of Gotham City. Batman does not fight crime to gain success or fame, unlike some arrogant epic heroes. Batman’s true identity in his normal everyday life is Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne is a billionaire business man that runs a company called Wayne Enterprises. Batman can be compared to James Vane, Dorian Grey, Perseus, Beowulf, Hercules, and Dr. Jekyll. Although, these characters share a number of differences with batman they share common characteristics. In the book The Picture of Dorian Grey, the main character Dorian Grey falls in love with a young actress named Sibyl Vane (Wilde 56). Sibyl tells her older brother James Vane about Dorian and how she loves him as well (74).
