Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. (D-Brownsville), who was also present during the news conference, expressed support for the measure. Although his vote could push the bill through legislation, the measure is expected to encounter roadblocks in the House, especially since Speaker Joe Straus (R-San Antonio) voiced out concern over the possible implications it may have on the economy.
Faith Outreach Center pastor Charles Flowers is one of the conservative Christian leaders who attended the news briefing. He will also help push for the bill to be passed in the Senate.
