Below the city of Paris, you can find underground pathways that house the remains of over six million people. Corpses and bones from cemeteries across Paris were dug up and brought here due to health concerns at the surface. Gradually over time dead bodies and other remains were transported from five Parisian cemeteries to the catacombs where the remains were deposited and organized. Today there are guided tours through the underground cemetery, however, a majority of the tunnel systems are cut off.
