Football and basketball are the utmost popular sports played in America. Millions of fans assemble in stadiums to applaud their favorite team, hoping for a victory. Many fans believe football and basketball have an identical atmosphere; however, the two are completely different, but also share similarities. In both football and basketball, there are many similarities, but their differences are what make them unique sports to watch. Football is extremely different from basketball, but the two contain a handful of similarities. In football, players play on a one-hundred yard field in hope of scoring a touchdown, which are worth six points. The quarterback tries to gain a first down, which is ten yards, by throwing the ball to the receivers, or handing the ball off to the running backs so they can penetrate the line, hoping to increase yardage. In basketball, players play on a ninety-six foot court in hope of scoring a basketball, which can be a two-pointer or three-pointer. The point guard in basketball directs offensive sets, known as plays, which allow the players to cut, set screens, and pass the ball authorizing the players to score. Furthermore, officials permit five players from each team, five from the offensive team and five from the defensive team, resulting in ten players on the court simultaneously. In contrast from football, basketball plays with a spherical-shaped ball, which possesses a caramel color. Depending on the gender of basketball, depends on the dimensions of the ball used. For example, girls use a twenty-eight point five inch ball, while boys use a thirty inch ball. The ball also contains seams or grooves, around the circumference; this allows players to visualize the rotation of their shot ensuring proper form.
