Basketball Reflection Essay

The activity that I desired to participate in was basketball. Basketball is a very energizing sport that can be played both indoors and outdoors against two opposing teams (Podmenik, Leskošek & Erčulj, 2012). The purpose of this sport is to shoot the basketball into the opposing team’s net without letting the other team “steal” the ball (Podmenik et al., 2012). Basketball is a sport that not only increases ones physical fitness, but also demonstrates how to be a team player and build a positive intellectual winning mindset (Podmenik et al., 2012). I played a one-hour game of basketball with my best friends, Pooja and Sakshi. I did end up winning the game by a score of 25-20 in a very competitive, yet highly satisfying and determined game (See Appendix A).

Throughout the game, I was completely focused and immersed in playing the game that when the game come to an end, I felt like the game only just begun. For that moment, I forgot that I was a student and in the middle of various academic and personal stresses, and I was able to entirely focus my attention on the game and be “in the zone.” I believe the reason for my flow experience was due to the skills that I gained from years of participating in this sport. These skills were developed over a number of years of training, which I highly enjoyed. During the activity, I experienced an intense concentration against the opposing team, as their level of skills were similar to mine. Therefore, this ensured that I was appropriately challenged without being “bored” or “anxious” (Csikzentmihalyi, 2004). In addition, I had the freedom of choice and I felt intrinsically motivated throughout the game. There were no external factors that forced me into playing the game and I enjoyed every minute of it. Basketball is a game that I find very pleasurable and by playing this game with a group of good friend, it was definitely a reward in

There have been many elements that I have learned through the Harlingen High School basketball program, which may be transferred to any situation in life, as the basketball program has allowed me to determine the type of person I am. This was due to the fact that I was placed in many challenging situations, which fatigued me both mentally and physically, to a point which I chose how willing I was to overcome those obstacles. Organized basketball has been a part of my life beginning at age six, and has not left my side since. I have loved the game itself, and the actual competitiveness that is apart of it. Competitiveness is the overall intention for the game of basketball and would not and could not be enjoyed without such an element as it.…

College basketball vs. pro basketball It is surprising that college basketball teams do not even play half as much as pro basketball teams in one season. In a regular season, NCAA basketball teams play about 30 games, compared to the pros that play 82 games a season. Although they get to play this many games, they still sometimes get play in playoff games and championship games at the end of the season. In college, they have an end of the season tournament to get to the final four in a one elimination bracket.…

We practiced three nights a week with a game on Friday, along with three games over the weekend.…

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

The most recent college sporting event I have attended is the 2017 PAC 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament, which is the annual concluding tournament for the NCAA college basketball in the PAC 12 Conference. The dates for this four day tournament were March 8-11, 2017, the times varied for different sessions and rounds with the earliest game starting at 12pm PT and the latest game starting at 8:30pm PT. The first round and quarterfinal round both consisted of four games each, while the semifinal round had two games and the final round of course one game. This event was hosted at the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The target audience I believe were college basketball fans, especially fans of the PAC 12 conference.…

The NBA playoffs are where heroes become legends, and through their play legends become basketball gods. The NBA playoffs are filled with so many great moments that people still talk about today. Just think about Reggie Miller breaking the hearts of an entire city in the 1990s, or the constant excellence that are the San Antonio Spurs, who in my opinion are the best run franchise in the last 20 years, or the decorated excellence the Lakers had in the league behind the heroics of Kobe Bryant, and the huge shoulders of Shaquille O’Neal. For me, my favorite playoff moment happened in 2007 when LeBron James scored 29 of the Cavilers last 30 points against the Pistons. This year the push to the playoffs isn’t that much different from years before.…

In the brilliant film, Love and Basketball directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood she combines a sport genre with a drama. The movie follows two people that share a very similar strong passion for basketball. It begins when they’re kids after a girl who is played by co-lead actor “Sanaa Lathan” moves into the neighborhood of a young star played by co-lead actor “Omar Epps”. Their mutual passion for basketball is evident from the start. Not only is their shared passion obvious, but the audience is also able to notice that they have the “puppy love” in the very beginning as well.…
