Basketball Observation Paper

Within this paper, I recall and expand on my experience at the recreation center, where I observed the individuals who came to play basketball. The observations are primarily of the interactions occurring at the basketball court, but I touch on the weather and reasons for walking to the location as well. As an extremely antisocial person, it took me awhile to finally go, but I was willing to give it a shot.It was a saturday with fair skys and a nice breeze. I decided to walk to the recreation center, as it was a glorious day and not to far away. Also, I did not want to sway the opinion of me based on the car I drove. On the way there, I caught myself wondering what it would be like and how I would be treated. I did not usually go out, let alone …show more content…
I therefore did not set out until around 1 p.m, I figured after lunch would be the best time in order to see as many people as possible. I arrived about 15 minutes later, with a slight sweat. I noticed immediately the amount of people on the court. I remembered seeing a couple people out before on drives by, but only enough for a small pickup game. This time however, it seemed there were more than enough people for a decent game of basketball. Once I got there, I counted twelve people all of whom were black and male. I stuck around the outskirts of the court, but close enough to hear what was going on. I noticed that there were two particularly good players among the group. I can only assume the age range to be around high school on up to college. I noticed most of the players had some variation of the same basketball shoe on. Most wore regular t-shirts with longer shorts and high socks. I sat alone while I observed until I was asked if I wanted to join in order to make even teams. I was a bit surprised since I had made no indication of playing. In order not to upset the playing time of others, I accepted the offer. The game was tough, it was full of fast pace and talented

Heartbreak and hours of crying–that was the aftermath of finding out I didn’t make the travel basketball team in the fifth grade. I started playing recreational basketball for Montville in the third grade; since then, I had dominated the competition as I hit my growth spurt earlier than most of my friends. Not only was I taller than most of the kids I played with, but I was also faster and stronger. Coming into the tryout, I was confident in my abilities and believed that I would make the team. Upon finding out the results of the tryouts, I was devastated and felt cheated because I thought I was better than some of the kids that made the team.…

One-and-Dones in College Basketball Players who play only one year in college basketball helps players develop their game before going pro, but they are missing out on a higher education and lowering the standards of the college game. College Basketball has been receiving criticism on how many years a player has to stay in school. For all other major sports it is a three year minimum that you have to stay in college, however basketball is different. NBA created a rule that made it to where high school players couldn’t enroll in the NBA draft until one year after high school. You can go to: college, play overseas, or the NBA development league.…

The most recent college sporting event I have attended is the 2017 PAC 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament, which is the annual concluding tournament for the NCAA college basketball in the PAC 12 Conference. The dates for this four day tournament were March 8-11, 2017, the times varied for different sessions and rounds with the earliest game starting at 12pm PT and the latest game starting at 8:30pm PT. The first round and quarterfinal round both consisted of four games each, while the semifinal round had two games and the final round of course one game. This event was hosted at the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The target audience I believe were college basketball fans, especially fans of the PAC 12 conference.…

Basketball is deeply rooted in Japanese American history with leagues starting up as early as the 1930s. Basketball is more than a sport in the Japanese American community; it’s a way of life. After fourteen year of struggling for the rights to build the 35,000 square foot fifteen million dollar center, the Little Tokyo Service Center was approved to start developing the old parking structure. For the Japanese American community members, this development was as much of a push for recreational space as it was to protect Little Tokyo's cultural identity and economic stability because it was seen as the best way to invite the Japanese American youth community back into Little Tokyo. This new development builds community by organizing over 10,000 residents in leagues and tournaments.…

Basketball shooting has become a lost art in all levels of basketball. Just turn on a college or professional game to see the number of free throws or open shots that are missed badly. Surely if the best players in the world are missing shots then the lower levels are getting worse. How can this be you might ask? With all the technological advances, scouting, video analysis, and all the basketball shooting drills shouldn’t players be improving instead of regressing?…
