Improved Essays
Introduction
Since my Father is a Sportsman I have always had an interest in Basketball so from the stimulus sports I decided to choose Basketball for my internal assessment. I have always watched my father playing and coaching Basketball which has enabled me to see that there is a connection between sports and maths. But what is the connection exactly, which can help us in improving our plays in Basketball?

I chose to take a gander at basketball from a mathematical point of view where the basketball frames a bend when thrown. The variables utilized will be the diverse statures of the components included in the situation and also the distance between these factors. Through these variables, I will discover a mathematical statement for the parabola or bend and I can utilize it to figure out where I ought to remain on the court to make the play. Distinctive situations will be dissected scientifically, one where He (my father) is the shooter and

A parabola is a chime molded, or formed like a curve, either confronting upwards or downwards. In this case, our parabola is confronting downwards since the ball is being thrown overhand. With a specific end goal to discover the mathematical statement of the parabola, we should utilize the two direction sets. A quadratic equation is expressed as y = ax² + bx +c.

In this situation, my father’s head is the starting point (0,0) and both the basket and his rival lie before him to one side, which means that the parabola will cross the y-axis at 0. C speaks the y-axis value, then c = 0.
This implies our comparison is currently y = ax² + bx. To discover the mathematical statement we must plot both quadratic pairs individually in the mathematical statement as:

In the first coordinate pair: (3.5, 1.5) x=3.5 , y=1.5

1.5= a(3.5)² + b(3.5) 1.5= 12.25a + 3.5b 1

In the 2nd coordinate pair : (11, 0.9) x=11, y=0.9

0.9= a(11)² +

    Unit 3 Discussion In mathematics, squaring a number is basically multiplying it by itself. It is simply impossible for two different numbers, when squared, to give the same results, because all positive real numbers have two square roots; a positive and a negative. For instance, in the following problem,(x^2=4) although it may seem as (x = 2) is the only solution, that is not true. If you solve using the Square Root Property, you can conclude that there are two solutions; (x = 2 or x = -2).…

    Last Thursday, I had a hockey practice, and before anyone else came on the ice, my brother Michael and I were just shooting around. To see how fast my slapshot is, I had him stand at the other end of the ice, and using his phone, see how long it took for my shot to go from one goal line to the other, exactly 60.96 meters. Keeping the puck on the ice the whole time during my shot, changing just the position of the puck, my slapshot took 4 seconds to cross the far goal line, making my slapshot move at a velocity of 15.24 meters per second. This calculation was done by divided the total displacement by the total time, 60.98 meters divided by 4 seconds. Finding the velocity of the puck relates to what we are doing in class, as we are talking about…
