Tryouts were coming up and this time I knew I would make the team because in the summer our JV team won a championship. Finally all my hard work paid off when I saw my name on the list. My face turned red like an apple as I began to laugh and smile. The season would begin soon and I had to learn how to play organized basketball. The thing that really helped me to learn quickly was my ability to pay attention and adapt quick. My coach always said “The things that you do in the classroom will transfer on to the court”. After hearing him say that I finally realized that education and basketball were exactly the same. After practicing hard and learning the “game of basketball” I got moved up to varsity two games into the season. This was a complete shock to me because a year before I was in the stands watching the games now I was playing them. Things would not get easier though as I thought to myself. This was varsity basketball with seniors and juniors, this was the real deal!! With watching the plays every day in practice, I would do my best to memorize the plays. My drive increased when I would use my free time at home using pennies to learn the plays and imaging me running them over and over again. After picking up on the plays, my knowledge on the varsity level increased to a point where I was able to play them with the upperclassmen. With the increase of my knowledge on and off the court, I was able to maintain a 3.0 GPA and earn a starting role my junior year on the
