Basketball was created in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith when he was given the task of creating an activity that could keep a group of disorderly, young men under control. He got the idea to place peach baskets on the ground and divide the young men into separate teams. The purpose of the game was to score points by throwing the ball into baskets to score points while the team played opposite roles. One team would play offense and the other would play defense. Both teams would use a series of motions to play them game such as: shooting, passing, and dribbling. The sport has become one of the most popular and one of the most successful sports that is played and American made. Many professionals have improved the sport and added content that has caused the sport to grasp a great amount of attention. Basketball is growing into a universal sport that is simple enough for everyone to play. With its development, many have not only studied it for its entertainment but also the scientific characteristics that are found within the game. Shooting is one of the most well-known and captivating strategies of basketball and the one activity of basketball that displays apparent physics. There are two types of shooting methods while competing in the game, a jump shot and a layup. For the jump shot there is little horizontal movement because the jump requires so much vertical movement.
