Hopefully the title has not lead you to any false assumption about this essay. Although I am a seventeen year old girl, this is not the whining of a depressed kid on the internet. I just thought it was an intriguing title that would interest the reader as perplexes me. Why? In all honesty i don't really know. How am i, in my short existence, supposed to answer a centuries old existential question? I'm not because I cant, quite possibly no one can. We can speculate though; i think that brings people comfort, to believe in something. Whilst discussing it with my peers two opposing views continued to be brought up: Basic Human Survival versus the Pursuit of happiness. Up until the mid nineteenth century the average person's life was to survive …show more content…

Religion . Entire cultures are dedicated to the belief of a higher power. The tricky part is the conflicting conclusions certain groups have come to. Though they are all just theories with little to no evidence to back them up, most are raised to think their faith is the correct one. In most religions the way one lives their life has a direct correlation to what happens after they die. The Christian Bible states that depending on how you life your life God will decide on whether you entire heaven or are forced to go to hell. Judaism focuses more on life and doesn't specify much on the after death, it is my understanding though that their heaven has an open door policy. Buddhists believe in a cycle of death and rebirth called samsara - through karma and eventual enlightenment, they hope to escape samsara and achieve nirvana, an end to suffering. Hindus also believe in samsara, they believe that a person's atman (spirit) is permanent and cannot change while the physical body is not permanent and can change. For theses people they live how they are supposed to, how they one they live for has instructed them

In terms of karma and reincarnation, most all Hindus have very similar beliefs, but there are numerous ideas about what happens to the soul in liberation. At the beginning of the first millennium BCE descriptions of the afterlife in Hinduism became more detailed and complex. The fundamental beliefs around karma and reincarnation are the same because they occur in the conditioned reality/material world. For instance, just because a person is unintelligent does not mean he or she is dumb. In contrast, knowledge and happiness could correlate if a person allows it.…
