Baseball vs Softball

Baseball and softball are very similar, or so you thought? Everyone knows both sports bat, play on a field, and try to get three outs to end the inning. But, there are a lot of differences with these sports also.

For instance, the rules of the game are different and somewhat the same. When base running, baseball players can lead off. However, softball players can also lead off, but only when the ball is out of the pitcher's hand. Speaking of base running, the length of the baselines are not even close. Baseballs baselines are twenty- seven meters, while softball's baselines are only eighteen meters long. The innings are longer too. Baseballs innings usually goes to about nine innings and softball has about seven.

I do not have as much power hitting the ball as many of the girls I play with do. I also am not blessed with long arms and legs to give me more arm strength and make my throws harder. In order for me to be able to live out my dream of playing college softball I have to prove that I am more than just a 5’2 third basemen, I have to find a way to stand out. Since most colleges recruit players that are about 5’4 and taller I had to figure out a way to play as if I am 6’0…

The pitchers would be able to throw much faster than before, most if not all would reach over one hundred mph. The only down fall of that would be the pitchers wouldn't have as much movement as before with the pitchers mound being farther back. With the fact that throwing over 100 mph and being this close since softball mounds are closer than baseball, no one would even be able to react to how fast some pitchers would be able to throw the ball. It’s just that their fields are way too different to be the…

Both games have similar defensive line-up on the field, with fastpitch having nine but slowpitch having ten. Slowpitch games allow a tenth player, who either plays as a fourth outfielder or acts as a “rover” in the shallow area between the shortstop and second base. The main difference between the catchers in slowpitch and fastpitch is their protective gear. Fastpitch rules require a catcher to be fully suited while slowpitch often allow only a catcher’s mask, if any gear is required. Another major difference between slowpitch and fastpitch are the rules on the base paths.…

Although when it comes to stealing bases in baseball the runner is allowed to steal whenever the ball is live (which is most of the time). In softball you are only allowed to steal once the pitcher releases the ball out of their hand, but the runner is not allowed to leave the base if the pitcher has the ball in the pitching circle. Another major difference between baseball and softball is the how the ball is thrown to the batter. In softball the ball is pitched underhanded and can be fast as it is in fast-pitch softball or slow like in slow-pitch softball. In baseball the ball is usually pitched overhanded in really fast…

If there weren’t a baseball team for a school due to lack of players, then a male interested would have to play on the softball team. He would most probably lead the league in steals, hits, pretty much everything because of his strength and the fence would be no more than 215 feet so he could easily get a home run (Janelle Greer, 2011). Although Janelle Greer claims men playing in a womens’ softball league would completely dominate, we don’t need her to tell us that. Anyone familiar with how many women are capable of playing with men has long known that just because men are stronger, it doesn’t mean that women shouldn’t get a chance to play with the…
