As a Christian, Rose would often sing a gospel tune while doing her house chores. The line that stood out from the gospel tune was, “Jesus be a Fence” (Wilson 21). Therefore, the song was about protection from God, for herself and her family. She wanted spiritual protection over her home; because she knew, her husband was not living right for as Christianity.
She had one biological son, and she ends up raising a daughter that her husband got out of wedlock. She always believed in her son, when he got the opportunity to go off to college to play football (Wilson 39). She was a very good person, because she raised a child that was not biologically hers. In the book, Rose Maxson told Troy that she did not want to be with him, but she would raise Raynell (Metzger). She proved that she a good wife and mother. In Fences, Rose was always unappreciated when came it to her husband.
Rose Maxson was the only individual who was at home more than the others were, because she was a homemaker. She also talked about other people hitting the lottery to Troy, to try making conversation with him (Wilson 22). Her husband never took out for fun, but he always managed to go out. Therefore, by them not spending time together, their marriage went under. Spending time together makes a better marriage or even a relationship. Rose would have been willing to help fix the marriage and family, but Troy left her out. She never let Troy ruin her happiest or even her
