As simple and meaningless as this sounds, it is one of my favorite things to do. Every single ground ball I field, I field with passion. Each one means something.…

Most of the information in here apply to baseball as well, but there are still some important things to learn here. The game will usually go for 9 innings which are divided in two parts. Each team consists of nine players. Teams in the outfield consist of a pitcher, a catcher, three members at each base, a player in-between second and third base called short stop, and then the remaining three team mates are in the outfield beyond the bases. The other team then takes turns using an aluminum bat (as is tradition) to hit the ball which is thrown by the pitcher of the opposing team.…

I cut through the air as if the ball was ripping each particle to shreds. I ran as fast as I could punching my foot off of each base, ready for the next one. Just as I thought the ball was going over the fence, it hits the top and rolls over to the center fielder. This makes me run harder. The adrenaline is pumping through my body as my legs and arms are working together to build my momentum.…

“Nice swing,” hollers Jeremy, my softball coach, as he places another ball into the pitching machine (6). One after another, I can hear the nice sound of the crack of my bat as I drill line drives up the middle. “Let’s end on a good hit,” Coach calls out. He puts the ball in the machine and I take a vigorous swing. The ball flies with power straight over my coaches head.…

One situation where I found myself in a fixed mindset was when I was a freshman at Mountain Pointe high school trying to make the baseball team. At the time, I had a half-hearted passion for baseball that made me want to be on the school baseball team, but I felt that everything would come natural to me because I was Dominican. I was quite proud of how Dominicans were typically great at baseball quite naturally it seemed. However, with this knowledge I became highly critical about everything I did when playing baseball at the high school camps before the baseball tryouts. I did not focus on overall improvement as I tried to ensure that every throw, batting, and pitch was perfect.…

The crisp breeze rustled my hair as I walked out of my house on the fall September day with my dad drilling instructions into my head. It was my first Little League baseball game ever, and my dad wanted to make sure it wasn’t my last. Being seven years old and never touching a baseball was something that had scared me; a lot. I had no idea what to think about this foreign, petrifying, game could possibly be about. The car ride from my house was only a few minutes away from the fields where I would begin my baseball career.…

When life becomes too much or I just want to have fun and relax my number one place to go is the ball fields. The field is where I go, because it is where my heart belongs. The ball field’s best feature is its green inner diamond shape, with grainy, brown dirt surrounding it, and the always freshly cut, stripped green grass making up the outfield. You’ll be able to smell the fresh cut grass and the cool breeze constantly flowing by to keep you calm and relaxed while you’re playing.…
