and in 1953 the College was named in honor of Bernard M. Baruch, benefactor, statesman, financier, and alumnus of the Free Academy. In 1968 Baruch College was established as an independent senior college of the City University of New York. US News & World Report, Forbes, and The Princeton Review, among others, rank Baruch College among the top colleges in the United States. Today, Baruch College enrolls more than 18,000 students representing over 168 countries; its student body continues to be named one of the most ethnically diverse in the United States. It also has 13 varsity NCAA Division III sports teams on campus.
