Bart Conner Dedication to one thing in life is hard to accomplish, especially if the one thing requires hours and hours of dedication every week. Bart Conner, an Olympic gold medal winner for the United States and a National Championship at the University of Oklahoma was very dedicated to his career. Bart’s journey to become the outstanding gymnast he is today was long and hard, but it eventually paid off. Even though he had to mature in a hurry, he soon realized that his childhood dream would come true. Through his hardwork and dedication, Bart overcame many obstacles and injuries to become the successful athletic he is today. Being an all-around skilled athlete is what it takes to be in the Olympics, and Bart Conner has been one ever since he was an elementary student. His High School coach John Burkell led Conner’s to win the All-American Honors Award as a freshman, he also won the AAU and the USGF as an All-Around Champion as a junior. After high school he became an instant celebrity in Oklahoma due to the fact that he attended the University of Oklahoma and was coached by Paul Ziert. That opened the eyes of many and made him a potential Olympic Athlete in the 1980 games in Moscow (“Bart Conner” 477). In his first year of competing at a college level, he lead the Sooners to the Big Eight Championships and the National Collegiate Athletics Association(NCAA). Bart was qualified to participate in the 1980 Olympics but decided it would be best to sit out due to the fact that he tore his right biceps.
