While beginning my search for the universities I wanted to apply to I started to look at the overall mission of the university. The section of the Barry mission statement that states “learning leads to knowledge and truth, reflection leads to informed action, and a commitment to social justice leads to collaborative services” is what intrigued about Barry University and why I applied. All of these qualities and core commitments are things I believe not only that I can contribute to, but that can contribute to my personal growth and achievements. To contribute to all of these core commitments you have to be strong and open minded about a new academic workload, and all the new and diverse things you will encounter on this journey through college. …show more content…
I have a competitive attitude when working to obtain my goals that I set for myself. Although I have this competitive attitude I don’t let it affect my behavior towards others. I work hard to help others around me and in my community. I believe my hard work and service towards others will contribute a lot to the Barry community. I hope to uplift others to do the same and work hard to achieve their goals. I hope to help give the initiative that I have to achieve my goals, to others. The next big core commitment is “reflection leads to informed action”. I hope to learn from others by becoming involved in the community and working alongside my peers. This will help, not only enhance my knowledge, but help me make good and informed decisions when serving others and my community. My open minded character helps me contribute to the last core commitment. The last core commitments is a “commitment to social justice leads to collaborative services.” My open minded character will help me be involved in the diverse community that will surround me while attending Barry University.
