Home runs are the most exhilarating part of a baseball game, but for Barry Lamar Bonds, the home run would ultimately be his downfall. Pressure from a family filled with professional athletes, the drive to become the greatest, and using steroids all caused the downfall of one of the greatest professional sports careers of all time. He was an everyday outfielder for the team where he played his position as an All-Star. This allowed the team over the span of seven years to win lots of baseball games. These early years were filled with accomplishments such as becoming the first National League player to have a forty homerun and forty stolen base season. Barry Bonds also won the National League Rookie of the Year Award. During this time Bonds also won two Most Valuable Player Awards for his nineteen-ninety season and his nineteen ninety-two seasons (“Baseball Reference”). Barry Bonds continued to become a standout player known by many Pirates fans but also known to many other Major League Baseball fans. This fame was not for nothing as he was easily becoming a freak of nature with his combination of speed and his powerful bat. As the seventh season of his career was winding down, Bonds was reaching his free agency.Free agency is a point in a player’s career where they can gain a new contract with a new team or the same team without being traded.
