I am interested in being a Barrett Peer Mentor because my own Peer Mentors this year have been so helpful in the transition from high school to college. I believe that it is extremely important to have a strong support system going into college and that the Peer Mentors play an integral part in this support system. Being a Peer Mentor would be an amazing way to make a contribution to this support system and help ensure the success of my residents in the upcoming school year. For me, to be a student leader in Barrett means helping to create a supportive and accepting community by being accepting and supportive to everyone and encouraging other to do so as well, being helpful and kind to everyone when given the opportunity, and to show pride for Barrett and ASU in actions and words.

Sometimes going out and finding these resources, such as a review session for a class or information about housing for next year, can be difficult. Peer mentors are able to bring in these resources right to where you live which makes seeking them out less intimidating because most of the people at the events for these resources are in the same situation as you. I think another way that Barrett Peer Mentors develop community is through events that are more focused on fun than resources. When my peer mentors had a Chipotle and game night when we got back from winter break, it gave me an opportunity to catch up with them and friends from the Barrett Business Community that I did not have a chance to talk to over break as well as meet some new people who I did not have the chance to meet of talk to a lot last

At times I think it’s often quite normal for new teachers to become overwhelmed their first year teaching. Especially at a school where there may not be enough resources to adequately assist them, this leaves many new teachers to fend for themselves. Reflective Narrative 1 When I was thinking about what to do as a senior project, I knew that I wanted to do something helpful for the school, in an uncomplicated way. Since sophomore year, I’ve been involved in the school’s peer mediation program. It is a very valuable program in the school, so for my senior project I wanted to learn more about it as well as expand it by recruiting underclassmen and leading mediation trainings. As everyone talks about how amazing the Technology Management Program is at UCSB, I could not agree more and now fully understand what they mean and thoroughly enjoy these classes. I am excited to be able to apply our TMP 111 speaker’s ideas and advice to my day to day life in the present as well as influencing my decisions and choices for the rest of my life. The thing I enjoyed most about the speakers were their ability to relate back to us college students, and provide a realistic example that what we are doing right now directly impacts our future. Three principles I am taking away with me from this class correlate to motivation; because I have a small idea of what career path I want to follow but not a great amount of confidence I can get…

I tried to slash Barrett a few more times, and each try was unsuccessful. The main gaps in his armor were well covered up, and Barrett didn’t give me a chance to look for and exploit the minor ones. Every time my swords would connect with Barrett, the sabres would simply ricochet off without showing any visible effect on Barrett. I was once again dodging a hammer swing, this one aimed at my jaw, when I felt a blinding pain on my side. I immediately backed off to give myself some time to recover.…

A peer mentor is defined as a person who uses their resources to support, encourage and inform someone. Going into this semester, I was unaware that I would be mentoring another student and thus doubted my abilities. Although I was excited to become a mentor, I questioned whether I would truly be able to make a difference in someone’s life. The difference that I wanted to make could be as simple as helping someone ace a test, but the news of mentoring threw me off track. Nonetheless, I gathered myself and tried to maintain a positive attitude.…
