In Barnes and Noble, I observed an older gentleman in the integrity vs. despair psychosocial stage (Wong, Hall, Justice, & Hernandez, 2015). He was a very bubbly, contagiously joyous, and content individual who wanted to share his joy with everyone. He also seemed to be a very strong and resilient individual who coped with challenges in life using humor, which he displayed during my observation. According to Birren, Cunningham & Yamamoto (1983), humor is a strategy that individuals use to cope with life stressors. He walked into Barnes and Noble with who appeared to be his daughter. He caught my eye as he sat in a chair in front of a bookshelf to wait on his daughter to finish checking out. He sat and patiently waited on her for several minutes,
