The Barn At A Hill: A Short Story

Improved Essays
When I was younger there was this barn up at the top of the hill. Me and a group of friends always wanted to go near the barn, but there was an old lady who lived up there and rumor had it that she was a mean old lady. We also heard a rumor on how her husband died. They say her husband died in a small crane when they ground around him just caved in and buried him alive. An every day we would look up at the top of the hill and look and wonder what was inside the barn because we see the old lady keep going in and out of the barn all day.
There were about five or six of us kids that were really close friends. The ages ranged from seven to ten and we were about four and a half foot tall to around five foot. We were all at the same lake place.

We made it halfway and then saw the old lady came out of her house so we all dropped to our stomachs and started to army crawl once she went into the barn. We drew straws when we got there to see which one would be the lookout for the old lady.
I got the short straw and had to go watch for the old lady. A couple minutes after they got into the barn they were coming out of it. I was so confused and they came and told me that we should go and quickly. So we started running back home, but we got halfway before they stopped and tried to explain what they saw and what they heard. They told me that there were animals in there and they were big.
Some of the animals were pit bulls and rottweilers so big that they could almost be as tall as us. I believed them because I could see the fear in their eyes and it was a genuine fear. So we walked the rest of the way home. We all told each other that we would try to forget about what we all had done, but every time we look at the barn we would remember that day. Even to this day when we go by that barn we wonder if she truly

With no insulation and chinks in the walls, keeping a near term mother warm and dry was a full time task. The available help was a 14 year old girl and a boy just turned 11. Then there was the earthquake.…
