Eric Barker examines some of misconceptions when it comes to success. Success is a broad term for most people, because success can mean something completely different for the next person. Like a self-help book, Barker discusses the positive and negative factors relating to success and how to bypass some of the obstacles. He also discusses common clichés to being or how to be successful. Barking up the Wrong Tree teaches the average Joe how to be awesome and successful in life. As I read the book, I felt that it reared toward a self-help format. Barker talks about the science of success through basic success beliefs such as “Do nice guys finish last?” or Do grades determine how successful one would be? The book constantly related the material to real life events or people. When I read the first chapter, I really took some gems from the material and pointers mentioned. I liked how he incorporated real life stories to prove his points. It made me shake my head in agreement and I start to be open to the uncanny ways that people use or have to be successful. In Chapter one, Barker mentions the tough endurance levels that cyclist need to ride long distances without becoming physically exhausted.
