Barber's Shave-Personal Narrative

Improved Essays
As I walked into the local barber shop for my weekly shave, I walked in on the barber sharpening his his razors. Per my usual routine, I hung up my bullet studded belt together with my military hat, and said “It’s hot as hell, give me a shave.” Slightly inclined in the barbers chair, I explained that several other troops of mine would have the same length beard as I. As I continued to talk, the barber enveloped a sheet around my redden neck and I shut my eyes out of fatigue. He began to apply the first coat; I told him how easily I could doze off. As we continued to talk, he unusually started shaking and trembling. Was there something I said or did? He almost seemed nervous as if he was hiding something from me. The barber continued the shaving

It was a rainy morning in Seattle, and I wore my Army dress uniform. Stepping off the bus, I ran 100 yards to the entrance of the Airport. After I purchased my ticket and checked my bags, I headed to the bar. It was the time of the winter equinox, and I was headed home with my discharge in my duffle bag. I suppose I should have worn my civilian clothes, but I had been stateside six months, and the comradeship I experienced in Vietnam had yet to loosen its grip on me.…

The Battle of Liberty (Confederate Victory) The date was September 17, 1861. I remember only because I wrote a letter home that very morning. I could tell early that day that things were brewing, all the men could. Myself and the others sat in a circle around the remnants of the fire waiting for orders to move, like a pack of dogs lingering over the remnants of a meal.…

As a biracial child in America, I never quite fit in. Growing up in Mendocino,California with exactly one “black” girl (myself) in the entire school, I was the go to for questions about rap music, dance moves and slang. I felt as if I was a representative for the entire African American race even though I am just as white as I am black. Once I left the sheltered bubble of Mendocino, I saw more people that didn’t look like me which left me in an identity crisis, everyone had a community except for me. My African family praised my fairness, and adored my curly tresses, but my white family didn't understand what to do with it.…

I along with many other members of my family have tried to achieve said beauty. Natural hair however is harder to maintain and in itself rewarding. Life with my relaxed hair was what most would call easy. A simple part and press in the morning…

I found the film “A close shave” to be very well produced visually and context wise. It successfully engages the viewer in the plot and creates an array of emotions as the viewer moves throughout the scenes. There was a diversity of tones, moods, and subjects that kept the film interesting. It included expressive characters and an advancing plot in both romance and drama. The storyline had a classic combination of a dramatic villain versus hero plot and a love story that keeps the viewer sitting on the edge of their chair.…

First, it’s unnoticeable. Then it becomes more and more obvious as you go on. The barber was sharpening the blades on the strop when the captain entered. He creates a mental picture of the enemy’s neck, throat, veins... “An enemy under ones roof,” “taking pains to see that no single pore emitted a drop of blood,” “Bit by bit, the skin emerged.” The author is making his lust for the open skin on the captain’s neck, showing his strength towards himself to not make it bleed.…

Joining a militia was one of the top things I never thought I’d do, and becoming Special Forces in that militia never made the list. Just when I thought I’d finally fallen asleep. The blazing light that fought to turn the milky white of my eyes to a black crispy crime.
