Barbed Wire Monologue

Improved Essays
As I grasped the barbed wire with my bare, dry hands I wondered. “How did I let myself get this bad?” I was in a all male full security prison for the rest of my life. Just because of one mistake. The barbed wire goes through my hand, I can feel it hitting my bone but that's it. I can't feel anything. It's almost like my body has given up. It's like I've had so much pain in my life that my body can no longer take it so it is shutting down. I can hear the dogs getting closer and closer to me. I pull myself up over the fence as the guards approach me. I cannot get caught this time. I cannot go back. Ever.
I have a family. A daughter. She's in the system but I can get her back. I'm not sure how but I will get her back. She is 9 years old her name in Sophia. The last time I saw her was

I am desperate enough to jump into the water. I have no other choice. My wounds sting from the cold salt water of the ocean. I don't know how long I can go without getting hypothermia. It feels like I have been swimming forever when I finally see a lobster boat. I use all my energy trying to wave down the boat that I pass out. That is the last thing I remember. I wake up to a bright light in my face. I can't believe that I am on land or at least that's what I thought. Turns out it wasn't a lobster boat that rescued me, it was a coast guard from the prison I had been in for almost 10 years. There was no way I was going back so I thought quickly. I pushed the guard off the side of the boat. His body submerged into the cold ocean water with not even a slight sound. I was free. I went to reach up for the necklace I had gotten from my daughter 10 years ago. But it wasn't there. I needed to find it. It is the only thing I have left of her. I search the boat for the relic but it is nowhere to be found. I figured it might of fallen in when I had pushed the guard off. I looked around the boat and there it was. Lying on the top of the water so peacefully. I was so relieved. I

I was over ecstatic when Fernando, (also known as Fernie) my best guy friend asked me to go on a walking adventure with him in our hometown of Kelseyville, California. We started off the day by walking in the forest alongside of Kelsey Creek. This forest has a really big meaning to Fernie and I, because we both love nature in every aspect and these walking adventures are not uncommon to us. Starting on the path we both got lost in our own thoughts, I got distracted by looking above me at the the canopy the tree branches created. My eyes followed the patterns the sunlight was creating as it broke through the leaves and cascaded onto the uneven forest floor.…

Upon arrival at the prison there were tall electric fence that surrounded the premises. On the top of the fence I was able to see the vividly sharp barbed wire at the top that was there as extra protection to make sure no one could escape.…
