Barbara Tuchman Theory Of War

There are many other theories as to what causes war. One theory that some believe causes war is the fact that people will obey the commands of others with higher power, even if it goes against their morals. This theory is something that truly does happen in humans, as can be seen in the Milgram experiment. In this experiment, subjects were observed to continually give another human an increasingly painful electric shock, eventually surpassing lethal levels, simply because a person with higher power continually told them to. This obedience to higher-ups can be very dangerous when those higher-ups have delusional, or even evil ideals. This is an agreeable theory because it was shown to cause a lot of tension between the countries with businesses in Morocco in both the simulation, and the real war. Another theory that Barbara Tuchman had about the events that lead up to the war was that she believed the Germans were a militant people who wanted a war. This theory is simply incorrect. The push for war and militarism in Germany was led by the Kaiser, who wanted Germany to rule the world. Tuchman even goes on to contradict herself later on by saying that the people of Germany acted very carefree and did not really care about anything that was going on in the world. It seems unrealistic that these people would want to give up their happy, carefree way of life for war. One more theory that some other people believe that humans are born with a violent, animalistic nature, and this is why we want to fight. This theory is not true because human babies are extremely empathetic; if a baby sees another baby laughing, they will start laughing too.
