Geography
Barbados is an island country in the region of the Atlantic Ocean known as the North Atlantic Ocean. It is found northeast of Venezuela and is the easternmost island of the Caribbean. The closest islands to it are Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent. The geographical location of Barbados is latitude 13º10' North and longitude 59º 32' West
Mount Hillaby, in the north central part of Barbados, is the highest point in Barbados with an elevation of 1,102 ft. The lowest point is the Atlantic Ocean which surrounds the island on all sides. Barbados has no significant rivers or lakes. Coral reefs surround most of the island except for the northeast where it has since eroded.

The population density is 666.02 people per square kilometer. In comparison the population of the United States is estimated to be 326,010,988. With its density being 34.86 people per kilometer. Also, Barbados is ranked as 182nd in total population verses the United States at 3rd. “Barbados is the 4th most densely populated country in the Americas, and 15th globally, and it ranks as the 10th most populous island nation in the region” (Barbados).
The overwhelming dominant ethnic group is black at 92.4% of the population. The white ethnic group, the next largest ethnic group, has a population of 2.7%.
English is the official language with Bajan, English-based creole language, widely spoken in informal settings.

The government is a parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy. It has three branches of government. The Executive branch is made up of the chief of state, the head of government, and the cabinet. The Legislative branch is a bicameral Parliament made up of the Senate and the House of Assembly. The Judicial branch is made up of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal. Barbados is a commonwealth realm.
The major political parties are the Barbados Labor Party, the Democratic Labor Party, and the People’s Empowerment Party. With current party in power being the Democratic Labor Party. This being their second consecutive term in power.
The current chief of state is Queen Elizabeth II who is represented by Governor General Sandra Mason. The head of the government is Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.
